Durdle Door and indeed Lulworth Cove are must visit places if you find yourself visiting the Dorset area.
I visited this area a few weeks ago and in this post I will share my experience of how I got travelled to both Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door and I will share some photos and a video of this gorgeous area. I will also tell you about the breath taking (in both senses of the words) walk from Lulworth Cove to Durdle Door.

Where is Durdle Door?
Durdle Door is a natural arch formed by the sea. It is in Dorset, near Lulworth Cove.
These places are on the Jurassic Coast which is named the Jurassic Coast as many fossils can be found here from the Jurassic period which was about 150 million years ago.
How I travelled to Durdle Door
To start my journey I drove to West Bay and parked there in the car park on West Bay Road.
From there I walked into the centre of the pretty little harbour village of West Bay. All buses from West Bay leave from outside the George, which is near to the harbour and next to the delightful little food and refreshment huts.
I wanted to travel the scenic way to Durdle Door, so I caught the Jurassic Coaster bus from West Bay which ends its journey in Weymouth, by the seafront and then I caught the X54 bus from Weymouth to Lulworth Cove.
This bus stops at Durdle Door, but I decided to carry on to Lulworth Cove as I wanted to walk from there to Durdle Door.
I was hoping for an open topper bus, but a closed one came, which was fine. There are a mix of open toppers and closed toppers journeying along the Jurassic Coast.
I paid £9.50 (September 2022) return to Lulworth Cove. Lots of other ticket options are available too. Check out http://www.firstbus.co.uk/wessex to find out more information about fares and to see timetables for buses all around the Jurassic Coast.
The journey on the top deck of the first bus (X53) was a little bit bone shakey but the scenery more than made up for the slightly uncomfortable ride. I guess I felt all the movement more as I was trying to film out of the window for my youtube channel! It may not be so noticeable if you are just looking out of the window!
The coastline views really were spectacular. I think that travelling on the Jurassic Coaster bus is really the best way to travel along the Jurassic Coast to appreciate the magnificent scenery. The route to Weymouth from West Bay passes through really pretty little villages like Abbotsbury and Burton Bradstock with their beautiful thatched cottages. Dorset has the most amount of thatched cottages out of all the counties in the UK. They are so pretty! This post is to be continued…
